Analysis and Synthesis of Optical Material Properties of Cloth




In this project we work on the analysis, synthesis and resynthesis of optical material properties of cloth. Materials can nowadays be measured and rendered quite realistically by using the bidirectional texture function (BTF). However editing of BTFs during the design process of materials is challenging. By using previous knowledge about the fabrication of cloth we want to enable an intuitive editing process. Domain specific parameters like the weaving pattern and yarn reflection properties are estimated from images. By developing new techniques in the context of physically based rendering, we want to be able to efficiently resynthesize the cloth under new views and lighting conditions. When the model is altered by for example changing the colors of yarns, a predictive rendering of the appearance should be possible.
